You won"t believe your luck in finding a 30+ year old book in this condition. Except for some very minor marks on the outside cover (probably from the book sliding against other books when being pulled from the bookshelf), it looks brand new! This volume is by Earl "Bud" Myers, cross country and track coach of Mankato State college, Mankato, Minnesota and Rich Hacker, track and field coach Berkeley High School, Berkeley, California. The author, Bud Meyer, now has a field house named after him at Minnesota State University--Mankato. It is called the Meyers Fieldhouse. This book covers all aspects of track and field as a sport - at least in regard to the rules of the sport in 1969. There are many black and white illustrations, as well as, photographs demonstrating techniques for everything from Low Hurdles to Pole Vault. The photographs of actual track events are a must for a fan of this sport. To mention a few, some of the photos include: Lee Calhoun wins the high hurdles at the Olympic Trial tying the American record of 13.4 seconds. Willie May is in the same photo who was a close second with a time of 13.5 seconds. Two of the great middle-distance stars, Herb Elliott and Merv Lincoln, of Australia are shown on their way to breaking four minutes for the mile. Ralph Boston record setting broad-jump of 26 feet 7 inches to erase the standard set by Jesse Owens in 1936. Olympic champion, Gisele Mauermayer of Germany warming up for the discus throw. The world"s fastest half-miler of the first 60 years of the 20th century - Tom Courtney. Olympic record hold, Al Oerter, who made his mark in the discus. There is even a vintage photo of Jon Flanagan who won the hammer throw in the 1900 Olympics! This would make a great gift for any track and field enthusiast or for the memorabilia collector! The inside pages are in "like new" condition - no marks, no dog-ears! Please add $2.50 for shipping in the U.S. Add an additional $1.30 if you want the book insured.
