This is a very pretty vintage "Happy Birthday" ceramic open book. It has a very lovely old picture of two blue birds sitting on a branch covered with pink flowers. In the background is a mill by a stream. The words "Happy Birthday" are on the right hand side. The bottom edging is a metallic gold.This looks to be very old, however, there is no date or other information on the piece. There are three pock marks on the edges of the book. One by the top bird"s tail, one about 1/4" from the lower left hand corner, and one just to the right of the lower center crease. All appear to be glazed, so probably factory flaws. The "H" in Happy has blotchy area which is also under the glaze. It appears the ink spread (probably not dry) when the glaze was added. The is a slight line running from the top of the right side above the word "Happy." Again it appears to be a factory flaw. The piece has no chips or cracks other than the factory flaws mentioned above. There is light age crackling in the glaze due to age. There are two holes at the top for string to hang the item. I have left the original string on the piece, but it probably needs to be replaced. This lovely little item reminds me of the things I used to go to the Dime Store and buy as gifts for my Mother when I was a child. The gifts were seldom expensive, but like this one, managed to find a place of endearment and, somehow, survived the decades!
