Springs of Devotion - Inspiring Writings, Joy of Prayer

This is a very inspirational little book published by Hallmark Cards, Inc. in 1966. The title of the books is "Springs of Devotion - Inspiring Writings About the Meaning and Joy of Prayer." The writings were selected by Arthur Wortman and illustrated by William Gilmore.

This lovely book has prayers by many famous persons such as Helen Keller, St. Francis of Assisi, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Henry Van Dyke, Michelangelo, Margaret Sangster, Maragret Mead, and others. Throughout the book are pretty gold parchment plates with quotes from the well-known and from the Bible.

One of the plates reads:

PRAYER is our humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living. By Abraham J. Heschel.

Most of the pages are text, however, I chose some of the beautiful parchment blocks for the photos with this listing.

Except for some minor age wear on the outer paper cover, this book would pass for new and is gift quality in my opinion. The hardback cover is "like new" with no wear. It is a deep wine color with the title of the book in a square block on the front cover and along the binding edge. The interior pages are immaculate - no writing or dog-ears.

The book measures approximately 4 3/4x7 5/8" in size and has 61 pages.

With these troubled times we live in, this book is full of wisdom and comfort for the soul!
