Western Horseman - Nov. 1958 - Pard,Oldest Trick Horse
for item Mag110
The cover of this vintage Western Horseman magazine shows a new way to catch the Thanksgiving Turkey! I"d file this under, "Don't try this at home!"
The Western Horseman called itself the Magazine for Admirers of Stock Horses. In this issue, there are some very interesting articles and advertisements.
In the article "European Horses Imported," you"ll read about 20 of the Lipizzaners imported to the U.S. These horses were imported from Hamburg, Germany, for breeding and training.
In "Kenway-Visalia Saddlery," you"ll read about the historic Visalia Stock Saddle Company of Sacramento, California, and the Kenway Saddle & Leather Company of Calgary, Alta. These two companies combined their operations to serve both Canada and the United States.
Don't miss the short story by W. H. Hutchinson titled "Remme"s Ride for Gold." Tom Phillips did the illustration for the story.
There is an article on Cowboy Polo. I found this interesting because my Dad played Cowboy Polo in Snyder, Texas. To see a picture of my Dad during a game, see my item #Misc 01 under Collectibles : Western : Saddle : Vintage - a saddle for sell that belongs to him.
You'll see some interesting advertisements by Lasso Manufacturing Company (western wear), Levi's, Diamond Horseshoes, Nocona Boot Company, Fallis Custom Made Saddlery, Acme Boots, Cross-U-Bar Ranch, and many more.
The magazine is in good condition. There is wear to the surface and edges. The binding edges has wear and a small tear on the upper edge. There is writing across the top area of the front cover. The interior pages are clean. Someone has cut out some sections of the advertising pages. Only one article has some holes cut in it - something removed from the advertising on the back side. The magazine has a slight musty smell from being stored for over forty years, however, it is not unpleasant.
