This issue of Life Magazine dated January 13, 1967, is a stark reminder of the war in Vietnam. The front cover shows a Navy gunner boat as it patrols the Mekong River. The cover title is "The Delta – Fertile Swamp of Suspicion." There are many pictures in this issue covering the war!
You’ll find a nice article about poet, Marianne Moore, as she turns 79 years old. The article’s title is "Leading Lady of U. S. Verse." Many pictures are included of the poet, as well as, some of her poems.
John Dominis’ pictures of a group of Cheetahs as they go about their day-to-day living is both interesting and intriguing! The pictures of the Cheetah family are beautiful!
"Curious Case of the Greatest Art Haul" discusses the art robbery from Dulwich College Picture Gallery in London. Robbers some how managed to by-pass the security system and make off with several valuable paintings – among them – three Rembrandt paintings worth millions even back in the 1960’s!
Football fans will enjoy the article "Can They Pack Up The Packers?" It has pictures and speculation as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the Super Bowl. Some of the pictures include Ajax Len Dawson, Mike Garrett, Jim Tyrer, Sherrill Headrick, and more.
The advertisements will bring back a little nostalgia. My favorite among them is the Buick Opel Kadett – the Mini Brute – probably because it was my very first car! The ad shows the Deluxe Sport Coupe was $1905.00 – less than what most auto options costs these days! The front cover is a fold out featuring a United Airline’s plane. Another great ad is the one for Budweiser Beer showing the team of Clydesdale Horses.
The magazine is in good overall condition – inside and out. The outer cover has some wear to the edges and corners. There are small tears at the top and bottom edge of the binding fold. There is also a partial address label on the lower left corner of the front cover. The interior pages are in good condition with no writing. The first couple of pages have some edge wear – mainly because the front cover is a fold-over that does not extend the full width of the magazine – exposing the right edge of the first inside page. The edge of the page has darkened and has some wear and small edge tears. The interior pages outer edges have darkened some due to age – but are not brittle!
