This is a very nice art book titled “When You Paint – A Complete Guide for Practicing Artists” by Ward Brackett. McGraw-Hill Book Company published the book that has a 1974 copyright. This is a First Edition – First Printing.
In this book, Mr. Brackett examines the basic concepts which underlie all picture making and the proceeds in step-by-step sequence to demonstrate his own approach to drawing and painting such subject as a landscape, still life, portrait and the figure. Additional information about color mixing, the use of watercolor, inks acrylics, oils, the uses of photography and the opaque projector makes this a valuable reference work.
The book is in excellent condition – inside and out. The dust jacket has tears and wear on all edges. There are also some small pieces missing from the dust jacket edge. The dust jacket has done its job well, however, as the hardback cover is in excellent condition. There is some very minor wear to the binding edges and corners. The interior pages are extremely clean – no writing or dog-ears.
The book is large – measuring approximately 10 1/4x13 1/2” in size. There are 127 pages including the index pages.
Without the dust jacket, I consider this book gift quality. It would make a wonderful gift for a practicing artist!
