Item #PC240

THESE STORIES AND POEMS WERE first made up for one particular little girl, Morning Face, but were later put into this Rare and Beautiful book for other little girls and boys to enjoy. Mostly about living things, the stories represent Gene Stratton Porter's method of teaching nature to children. This it the First Edition published in1916 by Doubleday,Page. The cover is gorgeous blue pictorial cloth, with design in gilt. This cover is in good shape with a couple of bends in the corners, and a rough spot on top edge. There are many many illustrations by Gene herself. On the first page there is an inscription to George S. Smith from Albert E.Stillman at Christmas 1923. There are 130 pages in this 8" X 10" Book. A few light discoloration age spots appear on the first two empty pages and last empty page in the book. There is a slight crack in the binding inside the front cover and one page is loose in the center. EVEN A DEALER OF PORTER BOOKS RARELY SEES THIS ONE!
