I have had many boxes that have had inlays of wood but never one with all this inlay of fine brass strands. It is not wire but actually very fine rectangular shaped. It is completely covering the cover as well as the four outside sections of the base. Except for the base insert it is made of one solid piece. The top is also notched out of a solid piece. Voorschoten is a small village and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. This beautiful small box with the silver decoration of an old mid-evil scene came from that ares. The back has a silver and blue sticker with the town name and a facsimile of their flag. Very attractive small black lacquered wooden box with gold floral design. It is signed on the inside of the top lid "Chantilly". Offering for your consideration this beautiful wooden inlaid box. Composed of 3 different colored woods and the intricate inlaid design. Workmanship of this quality required many hours of labor. It is a work of art not many are capable of performing. It is in excellent condition and only has one small flaw in the top right hand corner and the wood. It is showing some age crack lines.
