Buck won 2 batting titles in the Negro League and later became the first African-American coach in the majors. He was credited with signing the great Lou Brock for the Chicago Cubs. The Baseball Hall of Fame recently announced that it will erect a statue in Mr. O'Neil's honor and that a lifetime achievement award would be named after the longtime Negro League advocate.
