This adorable baby rattle was produced sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is marked E.P.N.S. which stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver. Most of these rattles were attached to a bone or coral ring that also served as a teething ring. This ring and rattle has lost the connecting piece so I am not completely sure that this ring belongs to the rattle. It was part of a box of old baby items in an estate sale. The ring measures 3-1/2" across. The rattle measures 2-3/4" x 1-3/8" x 1". There are a couple of dents and I am not sure if the face is dented or just made that way. Very difficult to find any of these rattles in any condition as most were probably destroyed by the relentless efforts of the child. Great collectible. I have priced it according to the rattle only and have included the ring.
