I have a fondness for these elegant lamps. I wonder how they have survived for 170 years. This one is 11 3/4" with a blown font and pressed stepped base. The font is partially frosted. It has small chips on the base and some inside the base. Possibly Sandwich, it dates from the first half of the 19th century.

This nicely proportioned whale oil lamp has a pressed, stepped, square base and blown reservoir attached with a triple wafer. It is frosted with cut to clear decoration. The condition is excellent with minimal external base chips. Possibly Sandwich, Ca 1825/40.

My best lamp is 8 1/2" and in excellent condition. It has a free blown font with a pressed square scrolled base with paw feet and lions heads between the scrolls (see blue arrow in picture). The lions seem more canine with a mane to me. See Barlow & Kaiser # 2028 for the base and # 2029 for the font. There is smoothed chip on one foot. Sandwich, Ca 1827/35.

This is an exceptional whale oil lamp with a blown font and pressed base. It's height is 9 3/4". The top is attached to the base with a triple wafer. The base is square with lions heads at each corner, fluted columns and each panel has a basket of flowers. The condition is excellent with minimal chips. These are from the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. See illustration and subsequent explanation # 2076 in Barlow & Kaiser's "A Guide To Sandwich Glass Whale Oil Lamps and Accessories"...

This whale oil lamp is appx. 8 1/4" including the collar. It has a blown font and a blown standard. The font is attached with a 4 tier wafer and the standard with a double wafer. The pressed base is almost lacy. Unfortunately there is damage to the base. One side had a large piece that has broken and been glued in. At one corner there is a piece missing. Probably Sandwich, Ca 1830/40.

This lamp is appx. 8 1/2", with a blown font with a stepped base ending in a square base with rounded extended corners. It is attached with quadruple wafer. These rounded corners may have been ground to remove chips. Otherwise it is in excellent condition with minimal chipping. Probably New England, ca 1830/40.

This gravy ladle is 7" and in excellent condition. There are no dents or repairs. The pattern is Tuscan. It is marked "King & Brother". Although there are several Kings, I can't find a brother. It also has an interesting raised eagle that must have been part of the Tuscan die and is probably a manufacturers mark or possibly a journeyman's mark which I am also unable to identify. Ca 1850/55.

This is a small early teaspoon in decent condition. It's lack of shoulders and handle form indicate early 19th century, 1800/1810. It has some minor dings in the bowl, but no bowl wear. It has a miniscule crack (less than 1/64") where the bowl & handle meet. It is marked S. Baker, NY and Wilmington, NC. The book " Silversmiths of North Carolina" states that it is unknown when Baker came to Wilmington. These early, possibly Southern spoons are hard to find.

This "fiddlethread" tablespoon is 8 1/2" and is not in great condition. There are some bowl dents and a bowl bend and slight bowl wear. However, it would work very well with red beans and rice. It is marked "A.B. Griswold" and with another tiny mark that I can't make out. It's a usuable piece of silver.
