Here is an inigma. They are 7 7/8" long, are pointed end, with a back midrib and no drop or shoulders. So I guess they are around 1805. I thought they might be Joel Sayre, but the JS look very close to the first letters of Jehu Scott's mark. They are substantial and in good condition, a few bowl dents but otherwise good.

This is a small early teaspoon in decent condition. It's lack of shoulders and handle form indicate early 19th century, 1800/1810. It has some minor dings in the bowl, but no bowl wear. It has a miniscule crack (less than 1/64") where the bowl & handle meet. It is marked S. Baker, NY and Wilmington, NC. The book " Silversmiths of North Carolina" states that it is unknown when Baker came to Wilmington. These early, possibly Southern spoons are hard to find.

A very nice pair of heavy, 7 3/8" dessert spoons. They have no bowl wear and a couple of miniscule dents in one bowl. Stephen Baker was in Wilmington until around 1818 we think. We do not know when his son came into the business or actually when he was in New York. "New York State Silversmiths" has him dated there 1787/1856. All this is assuming these are the same Stephen Baker. These are marked S. Baker & Son.

This 13 1/4" ladle is probably a soup ladle but, with it's flutes bowl could easily serve as a punch ladle. The pattern is "Tuscan" patented in 1846. The condition is excellent with essentially no wear. It is marked S.D. Brower (incuse) and has a raised eagle. CA 1856/55.

An interesting pattern originally, made in coin in the 1850's by Albert Coles, is very modern looking. This sterling 12 3/4" soup ladle was probably made around 1870. It is in excellent condition with no dents or cracks. It is marked with Albert Coles eagle, diamond with AC, and head and "sterling".

This 13 5/8" coin soup ladle was retailed by B.L.Hood in Buffalo, NY. I think this is a Boston pattern but I don't know it's name. In good shape, it has no dents, cracks or breaks And the pattern is crisp.
