HISTORY OF THE Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot (gda) COMPANY 1881 Charles Field Haviland retired, and Charles Field Haviland & Cie was taken over by E. Gerard, J. B. Dufraisseix, and Morel (GDM). The new owners continued to use the CHF decorating mark but also used a CFM/GDM porcelain mark. Apparently Charles Field Haviland continued in export/import as part of Haviland and Gagner, then Haviland and Abbot (red overglaze mark c1886-). See Charles Field Haviland for previous history. Of there partners, Emile Gerard was director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix the decorater, and Morel the color technician. Morel specialized in high temperature colors and added bright clear colors to the palette. Together they improved the efficiency and output of the company. Morel left in 1890, and 10 years later in 1900 Edgar Abbot, who had been partner in CHF's import firm from 1886, became a partner in what was renamed Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot (GDA). GDA opened a Paris branch in 1902. In 1929 GDA purchased Haviland & Co.
