$285

Very nice teaspoon with short front rib, webbed shell and good period block monogram "S W" on back. The mark is "D" in "Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers" by Patricia E. Kane. Incidentally, Kane lists other spoons by Boyer with this same monogram. The spoon is in excellent overall condition with virtually no tip wear and only minor wear to shell. It measures 4 9/16 inches.

$250

Scarce midrib teaspoon from John Ward Gilman (1741-1823) of Exeter, New Hampshire, with his distinctive three-letter monogram. New Hampshire silver from the colonial period is difficult to find. The spoon measures 3 7/8 inches in length and has a nice period block monogram and a shell, which does show some wear. There is some wear evident around the bowl.

$95

Nice 4-inch teaspoon of upturned midrib style but virtually no rib showing. The spoon has good shell on the back and a mark which most closely matches "E" on page 666 of "Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers" by Patrica E. Kane (allowing for the truncation of the mark because of the tiny space on the handle). Traces of a monogram are visible but I think there has been an effort to erase it. Still, in all, a cute little spoon from the colonial period.

$1,200

Just obtained from a fine private collection, these spoons made by one of the most famous silversmiths of 18th century Philadelphia could grace any collection of American coin silver. They are beautifully bright-cut around the handle with skillfully engraved initials in a cartouche. They have down-turned handles with nice drops which would indicate a date of about 1780; they are each stamped twice on the back with mark "d" on page 357 of "Marks of American Silversmiths in the Ines ...click for details

Very slim hardcover catalog with brief history of the diamond and the emperor and two photos of the gem, one under fluorescent light. Scan is not very good in terms of color because the lettering and decoration is gold gilt on glossy dark blue which did not reproduce well.
