Fine museum-quality bronze portrait medallion of Kleber dated 1831 by the famous French sculptor Pierre-Jean David (1789-1856), also known as David d’Angers who produced many of these medallions. He is probably best known for having sculpted the frieze on the pediment of the Pantheon in Paris.
The subject of this portrait is the French Napoleonic period general, Jean Baptiste Kleber, who was assassinated in Cairo in 1800 by a Syrian-born student. There is a Metro station in Paris named after ...click for details
