Here are three colorful and decorative Art Deco saucers from a French bar, probably dating from the late 1920's or 1930's when this style was in fashion. These are similar to those used during the absinthe era except that these are from the first decades after absinthe was banned in 1915. Your drinks were served on a priced saucer which was left by your place. When you were finished, the saucers were tallied. Fine quality absinthe spoon, Les Etoiles #2, circa 1900, with the makers poinçon or mark on the back of the handle. In very good condition. These spoons were placed over a glass with a sugar cube on top, and the water was poured over the cube to reduce the bitterness of the absinthe. We will be listing a number of genuine absinthe era items over time. The spoon identifications are based on the definitive book, "L'Absinthe: Les Cuillères," by Marie-Claude Delahaye.

Antique blown glass topette with six rings from an old French bar. Each ring represented a dose, or one drink, of absinthe, which was diluted with water, often poured over a sugar cube, before drinking. The bar patron was charged for however many doses he or she consumed. This topette was hand blown in heavy lead glass, has a nice polished pontil on the bottom and also has some of the characteristics one finds in hand blown pieces.
