This book is a seminal work on the famous folk pottery of the Shenandoah region. Published in 1929, it was authored by A. H. Rice and John Baer Stoudt. I believe it was the first book devoted entirely to this subject. This is a first edition, bound in gold stamped purple cloth that has an intriguing loose woven pattern embossed on it. It is octavo size, consisting of 277 pages with 7 color plates and multitudinous black and white photographs...

A like new copy of the first edition of this book, published in 1958 by Faber & Faber, the London firm noted for its scholarly books on ceramics. Color frontispiece and more than 100 high quality black and white plates. Quarto size. Very slight wear at top of spine on dj.

This very amusing French transfer plate making fun of tennis and tennis players. A great item for the tennis enthusiast. Vintage tennis collectibles are hard to find. It was manufactured by St. Amand, probably in the mid 1920's. There is some very light staining around the inside of the rim, but it does not detract from the attractiveness of the piece. Diameter is 7 3/4 inches. The photograph of the plate has some reflections which make it harder to see the details -- sorry.
