Scarce and important reference, this booklet on Concord, NH, furniture, constituted the entire Spring 1990 issue of Historical New Hampshire. The main text is by Donna-Belle Garvin. Heavily illustrated, 108 pp. New, bought directly from the New Hampshire Historical Society.

This chest exhibits several features that put it into a special category: wonderful warm color; string inlay with concave corners on the top as well as on the graduated drawers; a fan on the skirt, and inlay on the top edge and base. Brasses are replaced. Made in Connecticut around 1790. Dimensions: width, case, 37 1/2 inches, top, 39 inches; height, 36 1/4 inches; depth, 22 1/4 inches.

Impressive patinated metal and wood bird cage from the era of Napoleon III, featuring a slide-out tray at the bottom for cleaning, side feeder cups that open outwards for refilling, the obligatory wooden perch and wonderfully pierced decorative elements. It sits on wooden ball feet and there is a warmly colored wood finial at the top which was used to lift it onto and off a table. Height is 43 inches; each side is 17 1/2 inches.

George II Queen Anne card table of very dense mahogany in an unusual state of preservation. It has a square-eared recessed top and a baize-lined interior with candlestands and money wells. The elegant cabriole legs end in shapely pads, and there is a wonderful mahogany-lined long drawer running the entire length. The top has particularly nice faded color. This is a handsome Regency period (circa 1820) breakfront bookcase of wonderful scale in warm, light colored, figured mahogany. The panels on the doors in the lower section are nicely matched, coming from adjoining flitches of the wood. The doors on the top section have lancet glazing bars on the upper part. The lower section has paneled doors and stands on a plinth. It is fitted with its original adjustable shelves throughout. Width, 80 inches; height, 87 inches; depth, 15 inches...

This is a classic reference work on American antique furniture, referred to in the trade as "Good, Better, Best" because of the classifications used in it by the author, Albert Sack, one of the most famous dealers in American antiques. With more than 800 illustrations, it has gone through zillions of printings and revisions. This is the 14h printing from 1971 (Not much 18th century furniture has been made since then) and it is in virtually mint condition...

A superb example of a Georgian period mahogany tray, double banded in brass and with carved carrying handles. The vertical pieces are rabbeted into the bottom, making this a complex item to construct. Trays such as this reached their height of craftsmanship in the Regency period from 1800-1820 while George III was incapacitated. Condition is very good; there have been very minor repairs over time on the sides. Dimensions: 24 5/8 inches long; 15 5/8 inches wide; 2 1/8 inches high.

Handsome Bowfront with Maine Provenance Federal bowfront chest of drawers of probable Maine origin. Nicely crafted with parallel string inlay around the top edges, light contrasting inlay outlining the drawers and particularly vibrant mahogany veneer on the drawer fronts. Brasses are original. The chest probably was made in Maine, possibly by the Radford brothers of Portland, who were active about the time this piece was made. 1800-1810...
