It has a wonderful oxidized patina which is so dense that it is hard to tell what metal was used, but a few scratches seem to show copper or brass underneath...

A superb example of a Georgian period mahogany tray, double banded in brass and with carved carrying handles. The vertical pieces are rabbeted into the bottom, making this a complex item to construct. Trays such as this reached their height of craftsmanship in the Regency period from 1800-1820 while George III was incapacitated. Condition is very good; there have been very minor repairs over time on the sides. Dimensions: 24 5/8 inches long; 15 5/8 inches wide; 2 1/8 inches high.
