First Edition, First Printing of this remarkable one-act play, written in 1941 but not performed until 1958 in Sweden and first published in 1959. Jason Robards played the lead when the play was first performed in New York City in 1964. This is a mint condition copy in dust wrapper (dust wrapper protected by mylar cover). O'Neill, considered by many to be America's greatest dramatist, won three Pulitzer Prizes and is the only American to have won the Nobel Prize for literature.

This copy was purchased in 1957 from a well-known antiquarian bookseller on Madison Avenue in New York City whose firm had purchased 10 copies when the book was published and still had one some original stock remaining. Impressive patinated metal and wood bird cage from the era of Napoleon III, featuring a slide-out tray at the bottom for cleaning, side feeder cups that open outwards for refilling, the obligatory wooden perch and wonderfully pierced decorative elements. It sits on wooden ball feet and there is a warmly colored wood finial at the top which was used to lift it onto and off a table. Height is 43 inches; each side is 17 1/2 inches.

Fine early tablespoon by one of the rarest Southern makers, Martin Noxon of Edenton, North Carolina. It has a pointed handle and dates from about 1805. It is in excellent condition, measuring 8 7/16 inches and weighing 1.68 troy ounces. It also has a beautifully engraved, elegant script monogram on the handle.
