I have long felt that Gorham's Newcastle pattern, which dates from 1895, was underrated. It is a handsome beaded design with interesting serving pieces, and the pieces are usually hefty. This fork and spoon in this set measure a tad longer than 9 inches and retain their original gilt in the bowls. There is a period script monogram "T" on the handles (a photograph of the monogram is available and can be emailed on request)...

Handsome Bowfront with Maine Provenance Federal bowfront chest of drawers of probable Maine origin. Nicely crafted with parallel string inlay around the top edges, light contrasting inlay outlining the drawers and particularly vibrant mahogany veneer on the drawer fronts. Brasses are original. Fine late Victorian English brass postal scale with malachite base by the renowned firm of Sampson Mordan & Co. These are particularly handsome because of the malachite which sits atop a larger piece of black marble. Looks great on a desk. Mordan was known, among other things, for making micromosaics and other items from colorful marbles. Ordinary Mordan postal scales are fairly common but the marble inlay ones are scarce...

One of the classic early views of Harvard College. Under the image it says, "A Westerly View of the Colledges in Cambridge New England." This is an original etching, not a reproduction, from the second quarter of the 19th century. It was made for a book, but there were extra copies left over after the book was published and bound. We purchased a number of these prints which came from the descendants of the family that owned the publishing house...
