Louis XV bell metal candlestick with good patina. It is 4 ⅝ inches tall with the seam from the casting showing on the side of the socket. The base and shaft come apart and you can see that the threads are hand cut. Condition is good with few of the minor dings and scratches one would expect after almost three centuries of use. Beautiful two-volume set of The Art of the West by Henri Focillon, handsomely printed by Phaidon in 1963. Heavily illustrated. Volume I, Romanesque Art, has 159 plates. The previous owner's name is written on the inside cover and there are numerous underlinings and notes on the text pages. That owner apparently did not get to Volume II, Gothic Art, because there are no underlinings. That volume has 165 plates...

They inscriptions of on copies of books, photographs, love notes, etc. The originals were given by Carlotta O'Neill to the Yale Library for the Eugene O'Neill Collection.
