Louis XV bell metal candlestick with good patina. It is 4 ⅝ inches tall with the seam from the casting showing on the side of the socket. The base and shaft come apart and you can see that the threads are hand cut. Condition is good with few of the minor dings and scratches one would expect after almost three centuries of use. Kennedy, then a totally inexperienced candidate barely eligible by age to serve in the United States Senate, defeated an experienced State Attorney General, also from a powerful political family. The previous owner's name is written on the inside cover and there are numerous underlinings and notes on the text pages.
