Rare Pair Antique American Silver Repoussé Photo Frames
$1,650 On Loan to Exhibit
American silver manufacturers in the latter part of the 19th century made some high quality products. The firm of Dominick & Haff was notable; among their excellent items were sterling silver photograph frames, which were a popular item in the period. Here we have an assembled pair of a rare model. I bought one of them about two years ago; it sat on my desk because I never found time to repair the ribbon holding easel in position. Then I found another frame at a small show and realized when I got home that it was similar to the one buried on my desk. When I put them together, they were the same model. Both were made by Dominick & Haff and had the same pattern number (266). Both have heir original wooden backs, which needed some minor restoration. The monograms are different, but both are in skillfully executed period script. Dating from about 1880, they are 9 inches tall and 6 ˝ inches across at their widest point at the base. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful pair of Victorian silver frames.
