Art of the West, Romanesque & Gothic, 2 Vols, Focillon

Beautiful two-volume set of The Art of the West by Henri Focillon, handsomely printed by Phaidon in 1963. Heavily illustrated. Volume I, Romanesque Art, has 159 plates. The previous owner's name is written on the inside cover and there are numerous underlinings and notes on the text pages. That owner apparently did not get to Volume II, Gothic Art, because there are no underlinings. That volume has 165 plates. The plates are very high quality black and white a was typical of the Phaidon art books of that time. Volume II is in virtually like new condition while Volume I, besides the notes, does show some wear from use on the dust jacket but is in overall good condition.
