One of the classic early views of Harvard College. Under the image it says, "A Westerly View of the Colledges in Cambridge New England." This is an original etching, not a reproduction, from the second quarter of the 19th century. It was made for a book, but there were extra copies left over after the book was published and bound. We purchased a number of these prints which came from the descendants of the family that owned the publishing house. We were told the name of the publishing firm was Hinton. The sheets are 5 1/2 inches high by 8 1/2 inches wide. The intaglio mark made by the engraving plate (which you can see in the image and is an indication that the print is an original) is 3 1/2 inches high by 4 3/8 inches wide. This was the size of the steel plate on which the engraving was made. The actual image is 2 1/8 inches high by 3 3/4 inches wide. The actual image is considerably clearer and crisper than indicated in the scan.
