Nice George III sterling marrow scoop from a collection that came from Down East Maine. Measuring 7 7/8 inches, it is in good condition with no flaws. The marks are difficult to read because they were rolled in the finishing, but the date mark is quite clear and the London punch and lion passant are easily decipherable. The maker’s mark can be seen within the roll, but I cannot figure it out. Someone with better eyes or more familiar with the marks would probably be able to attribute it to a maker. Bottom marked pieces of this period often have marks that are difficult to read because the marks were stamped on the piece before it was sent to the assay office, and the final finishing was done later, causing the marks to be rolled.
