Just obtained from a fine private collection, these spoons made by one of the most famous silversmiths of 18th century Philadelphia could grace any collection of American coin silver. They are beautifully bright-cut around the handle with skillfully engraved initials in a cartouche. They have down-turned handles with nice drops which would indicate a date of about 1780; they are each stamped twice on the back with mark "d" on page 357 of "Marks of American Silversmiths in the Ineson-Bissell Collection" by Louise Conway Belden. Measuring 9 inches in length, the two spoons weigh three ounces 18 pennyweight (Troy). There is just the slightest tip wear and very minor dings in the bowls, easily corrected if one wishes to do so.
