Once upon a time, you'd get on a penny scale to weigh yourself and the bad news that you'd gained a few pounds wouldn't hurt so much because at least it was printed on the back of a movie star card. Here's a set of those cards, issued by Peerless Weighing & Vending Machine Corp. The cards are circa late 1940s...they also give you some lucky numbers and a fortune...probably to soften the blow of your weight gain...

This unusual old handmade snuff box is carved out of bone with a carved wood figural stopper top and base. The bone is carved with symbols. We're not sure exactly what part of the world this came from but the woman we bought it from said her parents had always brought home souvenirs from their exotic world travels. The folk art box measures 7 1/8 inches high by 1 inch across. It's in excellent condition and very unique.

This antique figural cannon handled letter opener is solid brass. It has its original age-tarnished patina that will polish up if you prefer it that way. Measures 10 1/4 inches long and is in fine condition.

These were the romance novels of the Victorian era. Published by the Arthur Westbrook Company in Cleveland, this lot of 3 original books are titled...Claire, Adrian LeRoy, and At War With Herself. These are all circa early 1900s. Measure 5 by 7 inches with colorful covers. Each is over 200 pages, printed on pulp paper. Considering the fragile nature of pulps, these are in very good to excellent condition...

We don't knew who these gentlemen are but they all strike a serious pose for prosterity...maybe for political races. These are circa 1900 to 1910 and are all sepia photos covered with celluloid...2 framed in brass. One is two-sided and has writing around the portrait...3rd ANNUAL OUTING - PETER J. KENNEDY ASSN. 1908. The man in profile has a plug stickpin back with bits of a red/white/blue ribbon that was once attached to something. The bearded gent has a bit of ribbon with 1904 on it...

This leather bound book...Our Lady In Art...by Mrs. Henry Jenner is dated 1910. Published by A.C. McClurg & Co....part of the Little Books on Art series. 'Our Lady' is the Virgin Mary...Madonna and Child...shown in 40 black and white illustrations. Book has 204 pages with a gilt page edge. Measures 5 by 6 inches. A dark spot at top of spine. Some wear to cover spine edges and corners. Overall, very tight and a fine old leather bound book.

These are wonderful old composition dolls, circa 1930s. The pair are dressed in what looks like ethnic Mexican style clothes. He's wearing a big straw sombrero with native suit (slightly faded). She's wearing a sparkled skirt. Their faces are hand-painted as are the shoes/socks. The dolls are jointed at shoulders and hips. They measure 8 inches high. A few minor nicks to paint/shoe tips but overall, these are in excellent vintage condition. Very bright, colorful and old.

This is an incredible antique ethnic necklace...handmade of silver and foil-backed glass with old coins dangling down. The necklace is choker style with the beads and pieces sewn onto a leather strap that's backed with cloth. An antique Birmingham (England) Victorian brass button is the closure. The necklace has some damage to one of the glass pieces at top (on the right)...this can be repaired though some might like to leave this as it is...

This original old 1912 book is titled...Tommy Tiptop And His Baseball Nine...Or The Boys of Riverdale and Their Good Times...by Raymond Stone. Published by Charles E. Graham & Co. Book is illustrated and it's a nice story about a boy and his favorite sport. 126 pages. Inside front page has a pasted-down Santa face with inscription... 'Merry Christmas to Bobby 1934'. Some wear to book corners/edges and pages are slightly age-yellowed. Spine is tight. Book is overall in very good condition.

The perfume is gone but the beautiful bottle lingers on. This original vintage perfume bottle is marked...Loulou Parfums - Cacharel Paris. The bottle is made of blue glass with a cinnamon-colored plastic spire top. Bottle measures 1 5/8 inches across by 2 1/4 inches high. It's in excellent condition.

Here's an unusual piece of sheet music from 1938. Titled...AT A PERFUME COUNTER ON THE RUE DE LA PAIX, graphics show an art deco era woman sniffing a bottle of French perfume. A big bottle is also shown. This song came from Billy Rose's Casa Manana and was introduced by Morton Downey and Wini Shaw. Some wear/creases to edges but overall in very good condition. Nice to frame up for you perfume bottle collection.

This pretty vintage butter dish by Royal Staffordshire was designed by the highly-collectible designer Clarice Cliff. Circa 1950, the dish combines black and white flowers with an English Manor scene. There are a couple of very minor glaze pops on the underside and overall age crazing. This piece has a hand-shaped form...note the uneven bump on one side. Overall, dish is in excellent condition...no chips or cracks.
