Art Deco 1930's FRENCH BAKELITE Carved Buckle

This amazingly carved 1930's art deco buckle is a dead ringer for genuine Bakelite but this is FRENCH Bakelite...called Galalith. It's been used since 1897 and is made of organic materials. The dark olive green buckle is carved with an openwork center. One half is large...the other small. The original MADE IN FRANCE tag still hangs from the buckle. Back is smooth and has a series of loops which is how this would be attached to fabric. Someone with a bit of time and talent could turn this into an incredible belt or even piece of jewelry. This measures 4 1/4 by 4 3/4 inches...big! It's in unused, excellent condition...old store stock from jewelry store contents we bought over 35 years ago. Very unique!
