Orig. Vintage c1940 PICANINNY FREEZE Ice Cream Sign

This original heavy cardboard sign is dated 1922 but we think it was actually made for use circa 1940. Sign is for HENDLERS ICE CREAM...THE VELVET KIND, and shows a 'picaninny'...which is what they called an African-American child back then...eating watermelon (it doesn't get more stereotyped than this). PICANINNY FREEZE must have been one of the flavors and it sold for 5c. Sign measures 14 x 11 and has bright color. Original string at top for hanging. Very minor wear to edges/corners...this is old warehouse stock that was never used. Guaranteed authentic and in unused, excellent condition. A great original piece for the collector of black Americana, ice cream or vintage advertising signs.
