Antique Brass WW1 TRENCH ART Artillery Shell Vase

This original old World War 1 shell casing is a great example of trench art. Made by a soldier passing the time during war, this artillery shell is hand-hammered and embossed with a great design of birds, flowers and leaves. This shell was sent or brought home for use as a vase or planter. It measures 12 1/2 inches high by 3 inches across at bottom. Bottom has 5 holes and some soldering around the edge (not visible unless turned over). This may be a 75 or 77mm shell which was a standard size for this form of trench art work. Excellent condition. An unusual war item transformed into a thing of beauty.
