Old and original, this genuine Egyptian Revival necklace is from the 1920's Art Deco Period. The Egyptian motif became wildly popular after the discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922... especially in jewelry since renowned jewelers like Van Cleef and Arpels jumped on the exotic genre. This necklace is a period piece, made of stamped brass floral panels on a double chain. These are attached to the centerpiece...a brass filigree frame set with a blue glass Egyptian cameo. The chain ends at openwork stamped brass long teardrops that you tie in back of the neck. The necklace is intended to be worn as a choker, with teardrops hanging down the back of the neck. Measures 24 inches long by 1 inch wide. Though unmarked, this is typical of the pieces made in Czechoslovakia which was one of the primary sources for Egyptian-theme jewelry at the time. Beautiful aged patina. Excellent condition. Cleopatra would have loved this one.
