It doesn't get much better than this magnificent vintage sterling silver necklace by Margot van Voorhies Carr or Margot de Taxco. Her name is synonymous with exceptional silver design. Her husband was Antonio Castillo of the famous Los Castillo silversmiths...trained by William Spratling who first put Taxco on the map to silver treasures. Margot was the grand dame of Mexico's Taxco modern age of silver, opening her own shop there in 1948. This gorgeous necklace is one of Margot's early pieces. It reflects her appreciation of various styles that included pre-Columbian, Art Deco, Egyptian, Arts and Crafts, and Mexican themes. This necklace is heavy and solid...a striking collar of a necklace with a geometric design. It measures 14 3/4 inches around by 3/4 inch wide. The back is marked...Margot de Taxco -5280 - Sterling - Made in Mexico. Also has the early eagle 16 assay mark...which was assigned to Margot by the Mexican government...used 1948 - 1955. The necklace is in excellent condition. A true jewel by one of the most coveted Taxco artists.
