The cut-a-way diagram of their top-of-the-line Model 10.2 Series II shows how this engineering triumph was achieved. In the upper section of each mirror-image enclosure is the Stereo Targeting array: an 8" driver for the midrange and two tweeters for the highs. Extensive computer analysis dictated the optimum size and location of the drivers for the widest stereo image: the midrange fires toward center stage, one tweeter fires forward, and the other towards the center of the room. For bass frequencies, the 10.2 incorporates Bose's acclaimed Acostinmass design. An 8" woofer inside each cabinet fires into two chambers, each with a specifically tuned port. Unlike conventional speakers which rely almost entirely on forward cone movement for bass, the Acoustimass system makes efficient use of both forward and rearward woofer movements. The two tubular ports are carefully tuned to different frequencies so that their moving air masses combine to produce really true-to-life bass.
