Vintage Meerschaum pipe. Actual age unknown but one can see the soft brown coloring changes known to happen as these pipes age ! Never used for smoking--clean inside and out. This MERMAID version is NOT of todays design. This vintage model features hand placements to the hips and thigh areas. Nicely carved Japanese man holding a very large fish probably a Carp. (White spots appearing in photo are flashback not physically on this piece ) This statue is made of wood....and is wonderfully carved by hand...though base may be machine cut.
