JAPANESE MAN WITH LARGE FISH WOODEN STATUE

Nicely carved Japanese man holding a very large fish probably a Carp. (White spots appearing in photo are flashback not physically on this piece ) This statue is made of wood....and is wonderfully carved by hand...though base may be machine cut. I am not sure of the exact wood used--but it is to a type of hard wood...and carved out of one solid piece . In the Asian world --this man and his fish have a special meaning to life...once told to me ---but now forgotten. The actual carving has caught all the expression ..all the body ..including fingers and toes. Hair top knot, clothing-- everything just could hardly be more realistic. Statue stands aprox.: 13 inches high 11 Inches circumference 4 3/4 Inches base bottom
