Vintage blue Phoenix bird cup and saucer JAPAN

Vintage blue and white Phoenix bird pattern cup with matching saucer. Cup is thin and transluscent.The Mythical Phoenix Bird has similar meanings through out different cultures. In Japan the Rising Phoenix was used to identify the sun, fidelity, justice, and obedience. This blue & white pattern originated in Japan. Only the saucer is marked Japan. As with other Japanese porcelain of that era, the Pheonix Bird Porcelain often came right from manufacture with a certain amount of irregularities. This cup and saucer is without nicks, chips, or cracks. The blue is rich and the set is glossy. There are some of the common tiny dark grits of sand within the porcelain itself which is typical of the era. The saucer measures 5 1/2"in diameter. The cup is about 2 1/8" tall. 5 sets available.
