Vintage Hakata Urasaki Doll Figure of a man sitting and carving a doll. This Hakata Doll measures 8 1/2'' tall and 7'' wide and has the traditional dark colors. The human detail is so realistic. These traditional clay dolls have been made since the 1600s, in the city of Fukuoka (originally named Hakata) Japan. They are fired and then hand painted giving each its own personality. American Soldiers started bringing them home as souveniers after World War II. This figure has two seperate red and white paper stickers. Numbered U-280. This old gentleman is in very good condition for his years. Some of the paint is starting to flake on the backside of his roble. No chips or cracks.
