Black howling wolf or coyote figurine

This howling wolf or coyote figure is made of an all black material, but I don't have a clue if it is basalt or what. Measures 7" tall and has wonderful detailing. Excellent condition with no chips or repairs. No makers marks or stickers. Not sure of the age either.
