A rare and unusual item from the Belgian Congo 1900-1920's era. Provenence states this was given in 1935 to the owner from a tenant who had lived in the Belgian Congo from 1900-1920. Entirely hand carved on an elephant tusk. Tribal African native dancers, and palm trees are carved around the entire piece. It was made into a lamp and the wood base carved to fit the shape of the tusk. Light bulb is a small (Christmas tree light bulb size. Tusk measures 10 1/2" tall with the widest diameter of 4 3/8". Entire lamp measures 11" tall. There are some natural cracks in the ivory. Lamp actually still works. A wonderful item!!
