For sale is an unusual 1863 colored print of the US Navy Ironclad "ROANOKE". The framed print is 11 inches long by 8 inches tall. It is titled "U.S. IRON CLAD STEAM-SHIP "ROANOKE" / The first Turreted Frigate in the U.S. 1863". It was drawn by G. Hayward for D.T. Valentine's Manual 1863, as shown. According to my internet research, which tuned up another copy of this print, the Roanoke was pretty much a failure as a fighting vessel and never saw action. The frame is of dark stained wood, and there is a note on the back that it was found and framed in 1989. A neat old print
Condition on the print is fair. There are three significant creases in the paper, as shown, and there is just a little foxing. Regardless, a great old item for the Navy buff!
