This antique set of six wood and paper mache male figures was made in India and is from the turn of the century. These were quite possibly a set of toys for a boy during the Victorian Era. There is cracking in the paper mache, at the place where the feet and arms connect to the body, from age. This is an exquisite majolica hand-painted artist figurine by Natasha Pavlova. From her studio in Yaroslavl, just outside of Moscow, Natasha creates the most wonderful figurines that combine both majolica and Russian folk art. This piece entitled, “The Boyar’s Daughter” shows a lovely young woman, her head covered by a scarf decorated with a floral motif. Wonderful majolica hand-painted bell has a young boy sitting on top, holding a dove in his hands. On the bell itself, is painted a Russian Village with red roofed homes and trees blossoming with fruit. The red clay ceramic bell is painted in shades of red, blue, green and brown. This piece was created by Natasha Pavlova at her studio in Yaroslavl, Russia. Her work combines Russian Folk Art with majolica technique. Last photo shows a grouping of pieces with a “bird theme”.
