This extraordinary Soviet Union Hand-made “stockinette” cloth doll from the early 20th Century depicts a Village Girl. From her head-dress and costume she appears to be from the Tula Oblast region in Western Russia. She is wearing a cream linen and red costume with a red plaid over-skirt. On her feet are the traditional villager bast shoes of the time period. There is some age yellowing of her blouse but her hand-painted features are exquisite and there are no rips or tears in her outfit. There is a hand-sewn label attached under her skirt: Made in Soviet Union.
