No company generated more examples of this form than Gorham. Indeed, the Tompkins book on this subject documents a full century of Gorham's production.

A large item measuring 1 3/4" in diameter and standing 1 1/2" high, this napkin ring is also quite weighty at nearly 1.9 T. oz.

It was made by Frank Smith, whose "lion and S" emblem is stamped on the inside lower rim, along with the word "Sterling."

Whisk brooms were perhaps more of a household staple in the past than they are today. A small brush made of broom corn, a stiff, straw-like, sorghum grass, they are rather pedestrian items save for examples such as this which has been fitted with a sterling silver handle.

Standing 1 5/8" tall, with a diameter of 1 11/16", and weighing just under .7 T. oz., this is a generously sized napkin ring.

Inscribed M.H.W., Mar. 18, '05" in an elegant script, the aesthetic style floral and fern engraving on a satin matte surface with knurled banding suggest the piece actually predates the inscription by as much as twenty years.

The central band is offset by two troughs which are in turn bordered by imprinted repeating star designs with rolled edges.
