Coin silver and so marked, along with the name of the retailer, "H.H. Ladd & Co.," Manchester, New Hampshire, they are matching pieces.

Each one has a Tipt end with a leaf and scroll design engraved on the front sides. There is a reserve area, which is inscribed with a fancy Old English "F" monogram in each instance...

An early production piece in Whiting's commanding King Edward pattern, this grandly-scaled, 9 3/4" long, weighty at 4.0 T. oz., berry or other (rice, entree, or vegetable, for example) serving spoon is marked with the company's "lion and W" logo, "Sterling," and "Pat. Ap. 23, 1901," as well as the retailer's name, "Shaw & Berry Co.," Washington, DC...

A design originated by Henry Hebbard, New York City, and later offered as a line pattern by Whiting, Mask was also retailed by Tiffany under its own name in the 1860s. This 6 1/8" long, .8 T. oz., sugar spoon is a case in point...

This 5 1/4" long, .8 T. oz., bon bon (or petit fours server) was made by Alvin whose "A" flanked by an "eagle and a sword" emblem and "Sterling" is imprinted on the handle backside.

An unnamed pattern, its scrolling, asymmetrical margins are suggestive of Whiting's Louis XV, although this version is more elaborate than Whiting's.

Dating circa 1860, this 9 1/4" long, solid weight at 2.4 T. oz., pie server is an early example of California (coin) silver.

It is stamped on the handle backside, "Vanderslice & Co. S.F. Cal." for the firm established in 1858 which, as recounted in Silver in the Golden State, became "the longest lived of the nineteenth-century San Francisco manufacturing firms," suggesting that this piece, unlike much California silver of the period, was regionally produced.

Dating circa 1840, this 6 1/2" long, .7 T. oz., Tipt aka Fiddle Tipt spoon is stamped "F. Franks & Co." and "Dollars."

Lacking a certain attribution, Catherine Hollan in her Philadelphia Silversmiths writes, "The firm is unidentified, probably from New Hampshire or New England where "DOLLAR[S]" is used [although this term, designating a coin silver standard, is not exclusive to New England]."

Properly hallmarked for London, 1766-67, sterling silver, and maker Thomas Wallis I, this spoon measures measures 6 7/8" long and weighs a substantial 1.8 T. oz. It is a Seal Top form with a characteristic flat disk (disc) end.

Original Seal Top pieces trace to the 16th and 17th centuries, however, meaning this is a "conversion" adapted from a regular but later date, albeit mid 18th century in this instance, spoon.

An early production piece, this 6 1/8" long, 1.1 T. oz., sugar spoon in Frontenac is stamped with the "Indian head" emblem of the Simpson, Hall, Miller division of International Silver, along with "Pat." and "Sterling."

The design is Art Nouveau in manner and portrays lily blossoms on the slightly upturned handle, front and back, as well as on the interior shoulders of the sinuous, shell-shaped, bowl.
