Dating from the last decade of the 19th century, Gorham's "Virginia" is essentially a pointed antique design with beaded edging, front and back sides.

This piece is a 6 1/2" long sugar sifter with an oval 2" by 2 1/2" bowl. It is remarkably heavy, weighing 2.7 T. oz., resulting in an usually thick handle and substantial bowl.

The rather strict bluntness of the design is offset by the delicate, patterned piercing in the gold finished bowl...

Measuring 8 3/16" long and weighing approximately 1.3 T. oz., this lettuce fork bridges two related forms.

It is more substantial than the diminutively scaled, delicate tine, pieces used for soft lettuce, but it is not as robust as a salad serving fork.

The lengthy handle is the proportion of a lettuce fork, but more substantial. The tines, two of which are splayed and one barbed, are relatively wide and joined to a cupped, pierced heel, but still smaller than regular salad servers...

Sized between a demitasse and a 5 o'clock spoon, this piece measures 4 5/8" long and weighs a relatively heavy .7 T. oz.

The pattern is Tiffany's turn of the 20th century, "Florentine," which is an elaborate and richly textured design.

It is in choice estate condition, showing no polishing wear, having a bright finish, and retaining its original gold wash, front and backside, bowl.

There is an Old English "C" monogram on the handle reverse...

Measuring 7 3/8" long and weighing just over .8 T. oz., this long handle olive or pickle fork is a clean example of Towle's "Old Newbury" pattern issued in 1900.

The serving end has two hooked tines that are splayed outward. These are joined to a cupped heel that has three piercings.

Without a monogram or removal, the piece is in choice estate condition. There is no polishing wear and the finish is bright and warm. The tines are free of bends or burrs and remain even and pointed...

A highly trumpeted design at the time of its introduction in 1880, Gorham's figural "Fontainebleau" quickly established itself as one of the company's foremost patterns, and it remains so today.

This example is a 6" long, just under .9 T. oz., youth fork. It is an early example, stamped with Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem, "Sterling," and the word "Copyrighted" set on the edge of the handle...

A fully original, early production, example of "Francis I," this piece is imprinted with the company's "bird, R in a shield, standing lion" emblem, and the word "Sterling."

It is a 4 7/16" long, just over .4 t. oz., lemon fork with three tines, the outer two of which are splayed. The center one is wider and slightly more elongated than the other two.

It is without a monogram or removal, and in immaculate condition...

Not a full flatware line, this singularly designed 6 1/4" long, .9 T. oz., pickle fork made by Wood & Hughes dates circa 1880.

The pattern is clearly rooted in Aesthetic sensibilities, with a marine theme. There are two shell motifs, one in the heel of the central of three tines, and one at the tip of the handle...

A 5 7/8" long, 1.0 T. oz. item, this is an early production example of Alvin's Art Nouveau pattern informally known as "OOB," short for "Old Orange Blossom."

Early pieces distinguish themselves from later ones (and fakes) by their exceptionally fine detail and finish. The handle is up-tipped, which is another feature associated with older examples; subsequent issues had flat handle ends...

Perhaps Wallace's most expressive entries in the well populated arena of early 20th century American Art Nouveau designs, "Irian" features the image of a partially clad woman with two cupid-like figures hovering around her head.

Other elements of the design incorporate more typical to Wallace floral elements, including a bold iris that appears in two places on the handle and in the heel of the bowl, along with wild rose and violet blossoms...

Priced as a pair.
One of Durgin's earliest line patterns, this design features a charming bouquet of flowers, leaves, and grasses tied in a bow. Although documentation for it is scant, "Spray" is an accepted name.

Examples of this show up in both coin and sterling silver, and are only occasionally identified as by Durgin. This youth set provide that association, as both pieces are stamped "Wm. B. Durgin" and "Sterling."

The knife measures 7 1/2" long, while the fork is 6". Both pieces combined weigh just...

This server follows after the form of an ice cream server, although some outsized for that at 10 1/2" long and weighing 2.7 T. oz.

Dating circa 1880, it has a slightly upturned, round end handle and a large, 5" by 3 1/16" at the widest, teardrop shaped serving end.

The entire front surface is extensively bright cut with wriggle work and hatched detailing. The theme of this is vegetative, expressed with an Aesthetic sensibility.

The imagery on the handle is largely leaves with two sma...

A 6 1/8" long, slightly under 1.0 T. oz., piece, this item dates from the late 19th century.

The pattern is "Cherub," by Watson, Newell & Co. It takes its name from the winged figure that appears at the tip of the extensively embellished handle. Employing acanthus leaf detailing, and with an irregularly shaped margin, the design embraces rococo sensibilities.

The figure is portrayed in two versions through the pattern line, one with upward facing, and one with downward facing, wings. T...

Priced as a Pair.
Measuring 5 1/4" long, and light at .7 T. oz. the pair, these matched spoons were likely intended more for coffee than tea.

They are a "Pointed Antique" design with engraved fronts, a slightly tipt backside, and exposed drops on the bowls. There are reserve areas that are without monograms or inscriptions.

Marks are a harp for Ireland, Hibernia for sterling silver, and a distinct, script "JO" for John Osborne, working in Dublin 1784-1809.

They are in good condition, noting some wear...

An early example, this gravy ladle is marked "Tiffany & Co.," "Sterling," "Pat. 1885," and "M," this last mark dating it no later than 1891.

The pattern is "English King," which is typically heavy, as is the case with this item. It measures 7 1/4" long and weighs a massive 3.7 T. oz.

It is in immaculate estate condition and without a monogram or removal of same. Pattern detail remains well-defined. The finish is brilliant. The bowl is without dents, dings, or nicks.

An 1880s pattern characterized by irregular forms, hammered surfaces, and classical, as well as sometimes Aesthetic, imagery, "Homeric" aka "Etruscan" is strongly associated with George Shiebler.

This example, a 4 3/8" long, 1.1 T. oz., bon bon is unusual in two aspects.

One, it was produced by Cincinnati's "Duhme & Co." whose name is imprinted on the reverse. This is an unexpected source.

Two, rather than featuring a figure from Greek or Roman mythology as is typical of "Homeric," ...

An early 20th century design that is basically a pointed antique, Whiting's engraved "Colonial" came in two versions, "A" and "B."

This lengthy (designed to reach the bottom of a chocolate pot), 9 1/4", and weighty, 1.5 T. oz., example is "Colonial A."

The engraving features a central, open wreath with a bow on the lower portion. The interior of this has a very fine, script "AJK" monogram.

The remainder of the surface has delicate, fleur-de-lis like detailing, with a diamond cut and w...

Price for the set of six.
Slightly smaller than regular teaspoons, and larger than coffee spoons, "5 O'Clocks" were used when late afternoon tea was an established social custom.

This matched set of six measure 5 5/16" and weigh 3.2 T. oz. the group.

They were made by Frank Smith in his early twentieth century "Newport Shell" pattern, and are marked with the company standing lion emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat-d."

A 6" long, just under 1.0 T. oz., item, this ladle has a bowl that measures 2" in diameter and is 1/2" deep.

It is a cream or sauce ladle in Whiting's "Heraldic," which appropriately enough is dominated by the image of a medieval helmet set at the top of the handle. The remainder of the design incorporates a dense array of high relief, scrolling acanthus leaves.

The bowl is the less common of two that Whiting used in this line. It has a scalloped rim and raised, leafy detail on the inte...
