At a generous 9" long, including a 3 3/4" by 2" bowl, this serving spoon may have been intended for berry, salad, vegetable or pudding. The pattern is Whiting's Antique Tip, which is a plain ground with a tipt end, with a fleur-de-lis. This is an early, circa 1865, example made in a coin silver standard. At 10 1/8" long and nearly 3 T. oz., this mid 19th century serving item is massive by any measure. It is marked Warner and Coin on the reverse. The name Warner is most associated with Baltimore, but this may have a Philadelphia origin. Certainly the design suggests this, as the shape of the handle is quite similar to Faber items.
