This tea strainer is 7 7/8" long overall. The sterling silver strainer portion is octagonal in shape with four larger and four smaller sides. It is 3 1/4" in diameter and has a 2" by 3/4" deep bowl. The handle is 3 3/4" long and is made of a deep brown, close to ebony, wood. It weighs 1.5 T. oz. total, of which some small portion would be the handle. Gorham's Rosette is an early line pattern for that company, patented in 1868 as indicated by the stamp on the reverse (other marks are lion, anchor, G and the word Sterling). This sterling silver youth fork is 5 13/16" long, relatively heavy at 1.0+ T. oz., and is engraved "Mary" in script. The pattern is Wallace's Lucerne dating from 1896. It is a complex, yet balanced design that incorporates acanthus leaves and scrolls. It is in good condition, although there is some polishing wear on the high spots and some tip wear on the tines. Marks are Wallace's deerhead, RW&S, and Sterling.

Whiting's late 19th century Pompadour aka Madam Pompadour is essentially a Queens pattern with, appropriate to its namesake, a lot of flourish. This example is a 6 1/8" long, two tine butter fork. It is early to the line, as indicated by being stamped "Pat. Appd. For," without a monogram or removal, and in perfect condition. Other marks include the Whiting logo and the word Sterling.

This 5 1/4" long citrus or orange spoon is a singularly fine example of Heraldic, produced by Whiting in the late 19th century. The dominant element of the design is the helmet that surmounts the handle, situated above a shield-shaped reserve. The pointed end bowl has rippled shoulders and a partially ribbed interior. What Gorham's reasons for naming this pattern were is uncertain given that this Colonial does not follow after the usual pattern forms by that name. Indeed, it is crypto-aesthetic in manner, and given its 1885 date, that well could be the design basis for this. This solid sterling silver youth knife is 7 1/4" long and weighs 1.1 T. oz. The pattern is Luxembourg by Gorham, and is stamped with that company's lion, anchor, G mark on the blade. It is engraved "Louise" in script. It is in superb condition, retaining sharp, clear design detail and having a fine finish. The blade is even, without burrs, bends, or nicks, but shows a slight flat spot from wear at the end.
