This sterling silver crumber was made by Durgin in the late 19th century and retailed by Boston's Bigelow, Kennard & Co., and so marked on the reverse. The pattern is Shell, which has an embossed shell set on a simple rounded antique end. The backside is monogrammed "EJW" in script. It measures 10 1/2" long and weighs a robust 4.3 T. oz. Hanau silver traces to Germany and is a subject unto itself. It encompasses designs and styles that were meant to evoke much older work than the 19th and early 20th century period when it was produced. These twelve oyster or seafood cocktail forks remain with their original presentation box. The pattern is Gorham's late 1870's, Hindostanee, while the retailer was M.S. Larger than demitasses and smaller than teaspoons, these two items are coffee or five o'clock spoons. The St. Cloud measures 4 5/16" long and is relatively heavy. It is without a monogram or removal, is in immaculate condition, and has a brilliant gold wash finish on both sides of the bowl. The No. 14 spoon measures 4" long and has an overall satin matte finish. The design is Moorish in style. It also is without a monogram or removal and in mint condition.
