Art Nouveau in style, this sterling silver stamp box dates from around the turn of the 20th century. It was made by Philadelphia's Simons, Bro. & Co. and bears that company's mark, along with the word Sterling and the number L687 on the underside. It measures 4 1/8" by 2 11/16", stands 5/8" high, and weighs 2.1 T. oz. It has an undulating base with tapered walls that lead to the actual box which measures 2 1/2" by 1 1/4". Dating from around the turn of the 20th century, this rouge jar has a cut glass base and sterling silver top. It measures 1 3/8" in diameter and stands 1 1/2" high. The glass has ten panel sides with faceted cuts along the lower rim, and it has a ground base. The lid has a raised center portion with an elaborate scroll design in the manner of Louis XV (or in Gorham's case, akin to the Strasbourg flatware pattern). This 2 1/8" by 1 1/2" by 7/16" matchbox or vesta was made by Gorham and is amply marked. It is stamped with a lion, anchor, G, Sterling, the model number 760, the date symbol for 1889, and the word Copyrighted. This item appears in the 1889 and 1890 Gorham catalogs (see image 2). At approximately 1.0 T. oz., this is relatively heavy, in contrast to the many examples of this form which are light to flimsy. It is solid sterling silver, measuring 7 5/8" long and weighing a substantial 2.6+ T. oz. The end of the handle features a cast poppy and leaves. This silver bell stamped Sterling, with Gorham's lion, anchor, G mark, and a date symbol for 1898, is unusual for two reasons. One, silver bells were more frequently than not made in plate rather than sterling as good tonal quality was easier to achieve (this one has a pleasant ring nonetheless). Secondly, it is stamped with the number 7822 in a rectangle, which in the Gorham system indicated a special order or prototype item. It was made by the highly regarded silver and jewelry manufacturer, George Shiebler, and retailed by Tiffany & Co. whose name needs no footnote. Measuring 1 7/8" in diameter and standing 1 1/4" tall, this is a substantially sized napkin ring. It is model number 2165 made by Gorham. It is a plain band weighing .9 T. oz. and having a satin finish outer surface. This is engraved in a bright cut design and has a script "A.M.S." monogram. It is in very good condition. There are no bends, dents, cracks or tears. It retains a round shape and is free of polishing wear.

Identified as "scissors" (see image 2) in the 1892 Gorham catalog, this form is also referred to as grape shears. A typical example from the period has hollow handles incorporating a grape design with steel (often German) blades. This pair is quite innovative, abandoning convention. This 6 3/8" long when open, 3 5/8" when closed, 1.6 T. oz. folding spoon is generally known as a medicine spoon, but also sometimes as a traveling spoon. This tea strainer is 7 7/8" long overall. The sterling silver strainer portion is octagonal in shape with four larger and four smaller sides. It is 3 1/4" in diameter and has a 2" by 3/4" deep bowl. The handle is 3 3/4" long and is made of a deep brown, close to ebony, wood. It weighs 1.5 T. oz. total, of which some small portion would be the handle.
